Sometimes I run out of things that inspire me.
But that is what art is for.
Art is for long, uninspiring days.
Art is there to push you, to make you think, to allow you to ask questions, to force you to create answers.
To reinforce your passions.
Art should be passionate.
When I create, whether it be anything from line drawings, to poetry, to portraits, I strive to take things hidden away from everyone else, things trapped inside my own mind, and express them in wayys that people might understand. I want to allow the viewer a chance to take my passions and my thoughts and my influences and my biases and turn them into something that they can relate to, something that makes them feel.
Because what is art if it doesn't make you feel?

Hello Alden!
ReplyDeleteI like that you wrote your statement in a poetic way without following a formal scheme. I wonder whether you could keep this poetic style, and at the same time come up with more specific examples. You say:
“I want to allow the viewer a chance to take my passions and my thoughts and my influences and my biases and turn them into something that they can relate to, something that makes them feel.”
Can you share a concrete example from your personal experience?
Feel free to include photos, quotes, and links to other texts, video clips and blogs that inspired you.
Best,
Martyna
PS: I like the title of your blog!
I like the concept of taking an uninspired day and learning to push yourself to be inspired and use art as a new way to express your self, allowing your passion to come through.
ReplyDeleteI like your original take on the assignment- a poem that says a lot even in its simplicity :)
ReplyDeleteHey! Sorry I'm responding kind of late, but on Monday we basically read over a few peoples artist's statements, and all gave opinions/critique on them as a class. Then we each picked a partner (some people already had a partner from the week before) and we discussed the photo project/brain stormed. for this project, next Monday we're going to use the class time to take pictures of anything we choose, but it has to be in/outside of our school. We're using the cameras our teacher gives us so we don't have to bring anything in. so we talked about that, and then we discussed the quiz we have today! hope that helped
